Cool Kids Anxiety Program

This workshop focuses on assessment, treatment and prevention of anxiety in children and adolescents. The Cool Kids program has a cognitive behavioural orientation, is designed to train children, adolescents and their families in anxiety management skills and can be used in both community and school settings.

The workshop covers general information on anxiety disorders including diagnostic criteria, assessment techniques and current research findings on factors that maintain anxiety and how this links with treatment approaches, and it provides specific training on how to run the Cool Kids™ anxiety program, either within the school setting or community setting. CPD hours can be claimed at your own discretion and a certificate of attendance will be provided.

Workshop Outcomes
At the conclusion of the workshop, participants should be able to:
• Select appropriate assessment techniques to assess for anxiety.
• Understand the cognitive behavioural model of anxiety in children and adolescents.
• Understand the core components of treatment for anxiety in this population and how each link to the factors that maintain anxiety disorders.
• Implement the Cool Kids program with children, adolescents and their families within the school environment or community setting.

Who should attend?
This workshop is open to psychologists, clinical psychologists, school counsellors, mental health workers and other professionals and students with suitable qualifications and experience.

You CAN complete the workshop even if you’re not eligible to run the program. This workshop may still be suitable for individuals who have not had extensive experience working with anxiety in children or adolescents and those who want a refresher on appropriate evidenced based practice for children and teens with anxiety.

Any eligible professional wishing to run the Cool Kids program must complete an online accreditation process, after completion of the workshop, to demonstrate their ability through a series of assessment tasks. Accreditation will be charged at $300 and is valid for 5 years.

Any professional wishing to run the Cool Kids program must meet these qualification requirements
• 4 year undergradate or 2 year postgraduate degree in health (psychology, counselling, social work, occupational therapy) or education AND
• Additional training in cognitive-behavioural therapy (dedicated postgraduate subject, introductory workshop or online training from recognised provider)

For those who have not completed a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) course, the following online options will be suitable to complete prior to registering for the Cool Kids online training:

Course Materials
It is presumed that participants of this workshop will have access to a Cool Kids Anxiety Program Kit. Participants who do not have access to the Cool Kids Anxiety Program Kit are strongly advised to purchase one during the registration process. Each kit consists of a therapist manual and a set of client workbooks. The Kit will be available for pick-up on the day of the workshop.

When purchasing the Cool Kids Materials, please ensure you pick at least one Therapist Manual and at least one Workbook Set (i.e. either for use with children (ages 7-12) or for use with adolescents (ages 12-17).

Cancellation Policy and Rules
1. A 20% cancellation fee will be charged if a written request for cancellation is received on or prior to the registration deadline (1 week before the workshop).
2. No refund is available after the registration deadline, however a substitution is permitted (i.e. another person may attend in your absence). At the discretion of the Centre for Emotional Health a 50% refund may be offered on production of a medical certificate
