Treatment of Children with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a common and debilitating condition. If untreated, childhood OCD tends to persist and is associated with the development of other co-occurring problems like depression. This workshop will begin with a brief overview of the diagnostic criteria for OCD and discussion of treatment efficacy data. The remainder of the workshop will focus on the implementation of family-based cognitive-behavioral therapy, from assessment through to its completion. The workshop will involve didactic presentation, videotaped samples of treatment sessions, opportunities to role-play and practice skills, and case-based discussion.

Workshop Outcomes
• Assess and accurately diagnose OCD in children and adolescents
• Develop knowledge and skills to successfully deliver cognitive behavioural therapy for youth with OCD
