Australian high school students are more vulnerable than ever to developing anxiety, depression and other emotional disorders. This results from both societal pressure and a lack of understanding of how habitual avoidance of unpleasant feelings and situations can undermine self confidence. In collaboration with the team from the Centre for Emotional Health, we have developed an engaging school wide program to prevent this pattern emerging. The program is currently underway at three large Sydney schools. My other research interests include: envy and comparisons we make with others; management of uncertainty; development of an internet treatment for adolescents suffering from both Anxiety and Depression; and the treatment of Magical Ideation for OCD. My career commenced as Head of the Anxiety Clinic at Westmead Hospital in 1996. I was there for 7 years prior to commencing private practice. My work as a private clinical psychologist has been heavily ACT and schema therapy oriented and I enjoy bringing a clinical focus to my research.
