Pre-requisite for Entry: Successful completion of the Cool Kids Anxiety Program eTraining and Accreditation Course. This course is only available for current Cool Kids Accredited Providers.

Registration Cost: $325 (includes the Cool Kids ASA kit, eTraining course + 1 year extension to existing Cool Kids Licence). The kit includes a therapist manual, parent workbook, a child workbook, and a teen workbook, each with handouts, activity guides and visual supports.

Please note, the Cool Kids ASA Kit is required to deliver the Program once accredited and each participating family will require a copy of the Cool Kids ASA Parent Workbook and either Child or Teen workbook.

About the Cool Kids Autism Spectrum Adaptation Program

Cool Kids ASA is a variation of the Cool Kids Anxiety Program, and was initially adapted for autistic children aged 7-12 years. We have now extended the program to include a teenage version of materials, taking the age range from 7-17 years. Either the child or teen workbook can be used, dependent on the target child’s maturity and cognitive development.

The program is family-based and aims to provide children and caregivers with skills and strategies to help them better manage anxiety. The adapted program uses the same principles as the standard Cool Kids program, but:

• the presentation of the skills is adjusted to better suit the learning styles and experiences that are common for autistic children and adolescents
• the examples and discussions have been developed to focus on common challenges that they face in daily life.

Topics covered in the program include:

• Incorporating relaxation as a core skill
• A simplified approach to cognitive restructuring using “worry stories” and visual prompts
• Increased use of visual supports and visual work systems to demonstrate skills
• Visual checklists to assist with home practice tasks and exposure exercises

About the eTraining Course

The Cool Kids ASA eTraining course is for professionals who have already successfully completed the Cool Kids Anxiety Program Accreditation course and are recognised as Cool Kids Accredited Providers.

The eTraining course will take approximately 4.5 hours to complete and may contribute to continuing professional development hours for health and education professionals (please check eligibility with your professional bodies requirements).

You have 120 days to complete the course modules and accreditation assessment tasks. Upon successful completion of the final quiz, you will receive a certificate of achievement which will be downloadable directly from within the course. We will also update the Find a Cool Kids Provider site with your new credentials demonstrating your licence to deliver the Cool Kids ASA Program in addition to the Cool Kids Anxiety Program, and extend your existing licence period by a further year.

At the conclusion of the course, participants should be able to:

• Implement the Cool Kids ASA Program with children and parents within a group or individual setting

Program Materials

Each participating family will require a copy of the Cool Kids ASA parent workbook and either the child or teen workbook.

These materials can be purchased via the EHC Product Shop. Please note that postage/delivery charges are in addition to the stated price for the materials.
