About the eTraining
This online on-demand course focuses on assessment, treatment and prevention of anxiety in children and adolescents. It covers general information on anxiety disorders including diagnostic criteria, assessment techniques and current research findings on factors that maintain anxiety and how this links with treatment approaches.

It also provides specific training on how to run the Cool Kids™ Anxiety Program. The Cool Kids Anxiety Program has a cognitive behavioural orientation, is designed to train children, adolescents and their families in anxiety management skills and can be used in both community and school settings.

At the conclusion of the course, participants should be able to:

  • Select appropriate assessment techniques to assess for anxiety.
  • Understand the cognitive behavioural model of anxiety in children and adolescents.
  • Understand the core components of treatment for anxiety in this population and how each link to the factors that maintain anxiety disorders.

Additionally, for those on the Accredited Course, participants will be able to:

  • Implement the Cool Kids program with children, adolescents and their families within the school environment or community setting

CPD hours can be claimed at your own discretion.

Who can run the Cool Kids Anxiety Program?

Any professional wishing to run the Cool Kids Anxiety Program must meet these qualification requirements for entry into the Accreditation course:

  • 4-year undergraduate or 2-year postgraduate degree in health (psychology, counselling, social work, occupational therapy) or education AND
  • Additional training in cognitive-behavioural therapy (dedicated postgraduate subject, introductory workshop or online training from recognised provider)

For those who have not completed a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) course, the following online options will be suitable to complete prior to registering for the Cool Kids online training:

Please email a copy of your CBT certificate to ceh.info@mq.edu.au.

If a person doesn’t fall into any of these categories and would like to run the program, they are welcome to make a case by outlining their qualifications and experience. A determination about suitability will be made on a case-by-case basis. Please email your request to ceh.info@mq.edu.au.

About Accreditation
Accreditation involves the demonstration of skill to run the Cool Kids Anxiety Program through a series of assessment tasks and is the only way to gain licence to implement the Program. The assessment tasks include a multiple choice quiz, a first set of case studies, a supervision session to receive specific feedback on your first set of case studies, and a second set of case studies.

Accreditation is valid for 5 years and allows you to promote yourself as a Cool Kids Accredited provider. You will receive an accreditation logo to use in your marketing and your details will be added to a searchable database of accredited providers. The database will allow the public to find you and confirm that you are an accredited Cool Kids provider. The Centre for Emotional Health Macquarie University will promote the database to the public.
